The Office for Curating

The Office for Curating is the generic name for a curatorial agency and research office, formalised and established in 2012 by Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk, and currently active in and from Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The Office for Curating acts as an assembler of a growing programme of exhibitions (including publications, texts, and speech acts) and as a support structure for initiating exhibitions as a rise to the occasion – presented in different shapes and configurations, along different temporal structures and rhythms, as hosted by different institutions. The Office for Curating takes a strong interest in curatorial practice as a tool for thinking contemporary society through artistic practices.

Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk

Niekolaas Johannes Lekkerkerk (1988, NL) works as a curator and writer for The Office for Curating and is director of the non-profit art institution A Tale of A Tub, both in Rotterdam (NL). Central to Lekkerkerk’s work are social and political discourses revolving around daily living and working practices, cultural norms, and ideologies. He particularly focuses on debates concerning the Anthropocene, ecology and climate, post-humanism, and the increasing entanglement between nature and culture. Lekkerkerk published The Standard Book of Noun-Verb Exhibition Grammar (Onomatopee, 2018) and Bestiary of Corona Animals (Onomatopee, 2020). In 2012 he received the inaugural Demergon Curatorial Award, and in 2014 he was the beneficiary of the Akbank Sanat International Curator Competition.
